The website Opera Scotland has just been brought to our attention. According to its owners:
"Opera Scotland offers you "What's On", listings of forthcoming events;
and an "Archive" of opera performances (giving date of first performance
in Scotland), both free to users"
It is also presently compiling a history of early Wagner performances in Scotland. Again, turning to its owners:
"As we move towards the bicentenary of Wagner's birth next year (22 May 1813) Opera Scotland
has been recovering the forgotten history of early performances. We
have now been able to list the date of the first Scottish performance of
all but his two earliest operas (which haven't been given here at all).
In doing so, we can claim not only to have updated and corrected
previous attempts, but we've found most were performed earlier than
previously thought."
